A second CAMECA EPMA at Texas A&M University
Texas A&M UniversityAugust 2014: CAMECA is pleased to announce that Texas A&M University has selected CAMECA's SXFive EPMA system to further equip their Electron Microprobe Laboratory.

The Electron Microprobe Lab at Texas A&M University (TAMU) is an important regional facility serving not only the research and academical needs of several departments within Texas A&M University but also several dozen academic and corporate research groups from North America, Europe and Asia. TAMU already has a long experience with CAMECA EPMA, their EMP lab being equipped with a SX 50 model since the late 1980's. The SX 50 electron microprobe has been applied to a wide range of research projects, from geo and material sciences to archeology, anthropology and even music, and contributed to a long list of publications.

The new SXFive system will provide additional analytical capabilities, among others thanks to its large diffracting, high sensitivity crystals allowing unprecedented performance for the detection of light and trace elements. The instrument will be primarily used for research projects conducted by Dr Will Lamb, Associate Professor at the Department of Geology and Geophysics. Dr Lamb's main areas of investigation include metamorphic petrology, the study of the composition and movement of fluids in the earth's crust and upper mantle, granulite-facies metamorphism and phase-equilibria, but the SXFive will also be utilized by several other research groups in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry... in order to image and chemically characterize small features in all kinds of materials, metals as well as biological specimens.
